Mike Sullivan Professor of Mathematics at Chicago State University received a Ph.D. in mathematics from Illinois Institute of Technology. Mike has taught at Chicago State for over 30 years. He is a native of Chicago’s South Side and currently resides in Oaklawn.� Mike has four children.� The two oldest have degrees in mathematics and assisted in proofing, checking examples and exercises, and writing solutions manuals for this project.� Mike III co-authored the Sullivan Graphing with Data Analysis series as well as this series.� Dan, the youngest, sells for Prentice Hall as a generalist.

The math book of empowerment

This book is a great book. I am able to figure out most of the exercises from the the given examples and explanations, but some answers won't make any sense if the student hasn't been given previous experience, as lets say the distance from the origin is 3 radical 3; which confused me at first, but for college freshmen is a little rough, especially in an early chapter.
Other then what I just described, the book is an amazing math text book. On the other hand, with all the changes and requirements in to days schools, the text book may probably be right on track.
With all the revised certification requirements for universities, most universities may now be requiring freshmen take supplementary algebra courses before attending university classes, which can be done at a junior college; which many universities parallel with a junior college anyway.
Beings the Precalculus (10th Edition) by Michael Sullivan, is such a good book, I am not sure I want to return it. I may need this book for three semesters, and depending how long ETSU wants to use this book, it may be cost effective for me to purchase it.
I may have gotten a little off track with this evaluation, but with the right text book what I said all folds together, which what is happening with this text book.

Good book, but you might not need it...

The book is just dandy. The problem is that I don't need it. If your instructor uses MathLab, buying or renting this book is pointless; you get a digital copy of it along with your $90 subscription to MathLab. Wait until your first class before you buy, you may save yourself some money.
