Very interesting and informative. Political homicides were/are common and it was the hidden agenda of all kingdoms...The Author with his own style of writing, inviting the readers to travel along with the princess of Shahjahan, who were trying to claim the reign. The best book to start big projects.

OpenStack is a structure with other projects inside working as blocks of a major structure that is it, the best of this book is that it teaches you what blocks you need to build your cloud service, there isn't much sources available that teaches you make it in practical way like this.

The book introduces the OpenStack talking about the architecture, usage, advantages and the other options if your project need other features. Then the book introduces all the blocks in sequence of what your project need, sometimes the other options, teaches how to configure and to solve basic troubles. Then when you have a working cloud, are introduced advanced optional features like Heat and Ceilometer, that I think most of your real projects will need, so its awesome to have it on the book. At the end they mention other alternatives and how to apply the concepts in other releases, which is very useful to have near when your project need more specific solutions.

My experience reading and applying was good, the book is very descriptive on what you need to do and why you can understand the process, is like a house, and the book start from the blueprints, at the end you can build almost all kind of buildings because you understand the concepts, so I liked and recommend this book.

"Learning OpenStack" is a clearly written book that a new OpenStack user will find valuable. It describes the components of OpenStack in an easily understandable way and offers contrasts to other commonly used frameworks (i.e. AWS) to help illustrate how things work.
The book begins with an overview of the entire framework, then provides a chapter on each of the major services. The user is given very plain step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure each service, and adequate explanation of why these steps are being taken.
Illustrations are simple and informative. They convey information about the major components in an OpenStack installation.
For new OpenStack users, this book will be a valuable reference. I recommend it.

About the Author
William Earl Maxwell is a professor emeritus at San Antonio College, where he has taught courses in U.S. and Texas government since 1971. Throughout his career Maxwell has focused on innovative teaching techniques and improving the teaching and learning environments for students. A thirty-five year veteran instructor of political science, Ernest Crain specializes in political party competition, comparative state politics, and Texas public policy. Crain co-authored UNDERSTANDING TEXAS POLITICS, POLITICS IN TEXAS, THE CHALLENGE OF TEXAS POLITICS, and four editions of INTRODUCTION TO TEXAS POLITICS. Crain received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Texas in Austin.

Texas Politics Today: Informative and Unbiased

The book was very informative, presenting a plethora of information and all that I needed for class and to know the interworkings of the Texas governmental system. Though the book covers Texas politics, which has historically been conservative, the information presented is very fair and unbiased in the results, showing evidence and allowing the reader to come to conclusions. All around a highly rated read.

This book gives great info but is very dry. It is hard not to fall asleep reading this. I have read other government text books that were very interesting that I enjoyed reading, so I don't think it was the subject that was boring. If you want to learn Texas Government then this is a good book but check to see if there are any that are more interesting.

An intellectual adventure that only Michael Lewis could do justice

Thanks to works like Psychonomics: The Scientific Conquest of the Human Mind, we know that the field of Behavioral Economics is a kind of wild west of the sciences, filled with speculation, outlaws, and not a little shenanigans. And yet it is by far the most fascinating and controversial science on the popular stage. The Undoing Project is the epic story of how it all came to be.

It is a story that only Michael Lewis could write. With his characteristic accessibility and knack for turning the complex into palatable pieces, Lewis presents the foundations of the science by crafting a story about its two visionary scholars, Daniel Kahneman and the late Amos Tversky.

In so doing, Lewis gives a face to the theories and ideas that we have all become so aware of in the last ten or fifteen years: The Anchoring Effect, Framing, Overconfidence Bias, Regression to the Mean, Halo Effect. These and other “cognitive biases” have become familiar scientific concepts. The story of the friendship between Kahneman and Tversky brings to life what could otherwise be dull and mathematical.

This book is admittedly less plot-driven than other Lewis gems like The Blind Side, The Big Short, and even Moneyball. The story of Kahneman and Tversky is not necessarily made of the big screen. And Lewis does pay attention to the math to a degree that some readers will have to skip ahead (as he suggests). Still, Lewis’ mastery of storytelling makes even this kind of material a gripping and endearing tale.

One thing that stood out to me is just how different Kahneman and Tversky were. How they came together from similar backgrounds, approached life from different angles, agreed to set off on their intellectual journey together, and collaborated on some of the greatest psychological studies of the 20th century sets us up for a classic buddy story—an intellectual Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid if you will. On second thought, it might be good for a movie after all.

Absolutely wonderful. Michael Lewis successfully blends two biographies

4.5 stars. Absolutely wonderful. Michael Lewis successfully blends two biographies, an intellectual love story (there really is no other way to describe the Kahneman/Tversky partnership), astute sketches of the work they did (in heuristics and biases), and how the partnership had ripple effects in a myriad of areas (from economics to psychology, from medicine to the military, and beyond). The book moves at a brisk pace, never dull, and fleshes out the men behind the scientific work. This vantage point into where Kahneman and Tversky came from, the events that shaped them, their intellectual make-ups, and the alchemy of their partnership is a real treat. This added depth to the scientists only makes me appreciate their work all the more. Highly recommended for anyone, but especially those who have read Thinking Fast, And Slow, any book on behavioral economics, or students of how human cognition leads us astray. A fantastic book that I couldn't put down.

Must release an edited version

With no doubt, I had great fun reading “The Undoing Project.”

I was introduced to the work of Tversky and Kahneman as a college sophomore in 1988 by my teacher, hydrologist Joseph Harrington, who was a great admirer of their ideas. The beauty of what is now called “Prospect Theory” has inevitably stuck with me since. It is only in retrospect that I have come to understand it was radical for its time.

So I swallowed whole “Thinking About Thinking” within a week of having read the Michael Lewis review on Bloomberg. And I’ve since really enjoyed the recent near-autobiography of Richard Thaler’s, as well as many of Dan Ariely’s books.

Well, you don’t have to believe me on this, but Michael Lewis actually explains the concepts better!

No joke, he really does.

And he provides an unbelievably deep, personal and sensitive account of the explosive relationship between the two giants. A very believable account too. The research done by Michael Lewis really shows. He’s had phenomenal access too, it seems.

And yet, the book does not hang together terribly well. Chapters 1 and 8 should not have made it into the book, they ought to have been relegated to the pages of Vanity Fair, where the author regularly provides fantastic material.

More to the point, what we have here is a bunch of chapters that, chronological order notwithstanding, do not constitute a book. The incredible material, the wonderful expositions, the deep insights are all present and correct, but they fail to meld into a narrative. Even the title of the book, much as it has its roots in the work of Tversky and Kahneman, does not do justice to their contribution.

It really pains me to say this, especially because the author’s previous effort, “Flash Boys,” was a genuine five-star book. Perhaps that’s the problem. Maybe if I was reading this straight off of “Boomerang” I’d have found it great. As it stands, I’m not sure I could recommend it to the general public.

If, on the other hand, you have the remotest interest in Behavioral Economics, you genuinely can’t not read “The Undoing Project” and you are guaranteed to enjoy it.

A Book That Should Be Read By Every Parent and Concerned Citizen!

This book is everything you would like if you want to read a current, conservative, and vibrant critique of the schools. Mr. Ludwig writes with humor and an unusual verve. He draws us to the real dangers of Common Core, the threat posed by undo left wing influence in the schools, the actual day-to-day horrors that exist in certain schools (students running wild), and the need for a revamped commitment to traditional educational values such as knowledge, compassion, character building, creativity, and the classic freedoms and Judeo-Christian values upon which America was built.
He never really answers how we are to shift away from the reformers and change agents who are ruining the system and returning more respect and authority to the individual classroom teachers (he has tremendous respect for the teaching profession), but he does point to one modality that will make a difference.... But I won't spoil it for you by saying here what that modality is.

A helpful & interesting guide to some of my favorite places!

This book inspired me to plan a series of long weekend trips to the lower NC coast, and revisit some of the places I vacationed at as a child/teenager. There are many historic and curious areas and sites pointed out in every chapter, places that we drove by years ago, but never really took notice of. For instance, a civil war ship wrecked close to the beach and now located under a fishing pier is only one of the many curousities Barefoot discusses. I was also inspired to visit places I had never been, such as the town of Southport, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, and Bald Head Island, just a 20 minute ferry ride away. The descriptions of even the smallest details given by Barefoot lured me to find these wonderful places.I can now appreciate the lower NC coast both from the historical perspective, and from the aspect of its unspoiled, natural beauty.

Good, But Out-of-Date

This book is really very good, but is now much out of date. It needs a second edition to address changes/additions since 1995.
