An insightful introduction to Keats

Keats is arguably the most likeable of the great English poets. It is not only the early death which halted the development of a talent often said only second to Shakespeare's in English poetry. It is the very difficult life, the being orphaned of both parents, the loss of his brother Tom to tuberculosis , his courage in dealing with so much suffering and tribulation. And along with this his generosity and sensitivity which friends like Gerald Clarke were so aware of. Keats is the thinking poet and as Walsh makes clear his enormous achievement in poetry is complemented by the achievement of his two- hundred and twenty letters. These letters to friends and family are essential to understanding Keat's poetic theory and thought about life. Walsh traces Keats' development, notes his moderation and sanity even in responding to criticism of early work such as 'Eudymion'. Walsh sees Keats as one of especially strong character, at the same time humble and determined .The great Odes are of course his supreme accomplishment and Walsh provides an analysis of them also.

This is a beautifully written introduction to one of the great poets of Mankind.

About the Author

Kathryn Sorrells is Professor of Communication Studies at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and is currently serving as Department Chair. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in intercultural communication, critical pedagogy, performance, cultural studies, and feminist theory. She combines critical/cultural studies and postcolonial perspectives to explore issues of culture, race, gender, class, and sexuality. Kathryn grew up in Georgia; has lived in different regions of the United States; has studied and worked in Brazil, Japan, Turkey and China; and has traveled extensively in Asia, Europe, and parts of Latin America. The critical, social justice approach she uses to study and practice intercultural communication is informed by her experiences growing up in the South during the tumultuous and transformative civil rights movement and her subsequent participation in the antiwar; women’s; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT); and labor and immigrant rights movements. Kathryn has published a variety of articles related to intercultural communication, globalization, and social justice and is co-editor along with Sachi Sekimoto of Globalizing Intercultural Communication: A Reader (Sage, 2015). She has been instrumental in organizing a campus-wide initiative on Civil Discourse and Social Change at CSUN aimed at developing students’ capacities for civic engagement and social justice. Kathryn is a recipient of numerous national, state, and local community service awards for founding and directing Communicating Common Ground, an innovative service learning project that provided students opportunities to develop creative alternatives to intercultural conflict. Additionally, Kathryn has experience as a consultant and trainer for nonprofit, profit and educational organizations in the areas of intercultural communication and multicultural learning.

Intercultural Communication: Globalization and Social Justice

I really enjoy teaching from this book. Sorrells uses the lens of globalization and social justice to inform various topics addressed in the book--ranging from questions of identity & difference, cultural space, migration, popular culture, intercultural relationships, and conflict. Her approach made ICC relevant and meaningful for my students. It helped them make sense of things they observe in everyday life--from gentrification to workplace conflict, social networking to Occupy Movement, Hip Hop to interracial marriage. The text sets up for engaging discussion and critical reflection in the classroom. I highly recommend this book.

This was our textbook for the Antioch University Seattle course entitled "Intercultural Communication". Our teacher based the class largely around the book. The course was fabulous! I highly recommend this book.

Terrific New Text

The book provides fresh voice and much-needed current perspective on intercultural communication competence. Sorrells is an excellent teacher, providing rich yet succinct examples--unraveling the various interwoven threads of her stories to enable the reader to more clearly see each thread--while keeping the overall tapestry in mind. Her writing should energize and guide cadres of undergraduates, as well as professionals, to use intercultural communication theory and practice to bring more equity and justice to our world.

From the beginning the author makes clear the need to put intercultural communication in context and with a clear purpose. She has challenged herself to address each topic, even the most familiar, through at least four lenses:
* in what ways is the topic complex and contradictory,
* how does the topic appear from micro, mess and macro views,
* what are the local and global connections, and
* how do the complexities and contradictions play out in our world today, particularly in terms of equity and justice?

The text is not intended for a basic-level reader of English! Also overly US-centered.

Dear Reader,This story was inspired by a trip I had to Dubai.I sat in the desert on a very balmy night at a Bedouin camp, stared up at the incredibly clear starry sky and contemplated what a vastly different land I was in. I'd had my hand painted with henna, eaten delicious local fare, been entertained by a camp fire by belly dancers and enjoyed the very different music - all after having ridden to the camp on a camel! A very different way of life from that I knew and I wondered what it would be like to live here. What would it be like to have to move from Australia to a desert nation and what cultural adjustments would be necessary? Even more daunting - what if my heroine had been born in this land, been moved to and grown up in Australia for her own safety, then not only had to return to this part of the world, but had the responsibility of ruling a desert nation? Enter Sabrina (born Sabihah, Crown Princess of Rajia).With all she had to face, Sabrina would need some heavy-weight political support and who better to support her than the Prince from a neighbouring land who she had once adored from afar? Except that Prince Khalid doesn't want to fall into the plans his father and Sabrina have for him!Ah! This was fun to write!I hope you have fun reading it!Best wishes,Alyssa

Alyssa lives on acreage south of Sydney with her husband, three children and a menagerie of animals. She has her own busy Speech Pathology practice and has also been a professional pianist and an international flight attendant. Apart from writing, she loves to travel overseas with her family, play tennis and entertain friends at dinner parties.

I LOVED It!

I haven't enjoyed a sheikh story in a long time like I LOVED this story. It's got EVERYTHING that makes a good romance. I loved the fact the heroine was no push over. In fact the hero Prince was more than a little astounded at her toughness & self assredness. In short, she's NOTHING like the women he usually associates with! You will LOVE this book!

One Not To Be Missed

Alyssa J Montgomery writes stories that are hard to put down they are passionate and emotional and will have you turning the pages and falling for the hero and heroine and this one is such a great story it will have you travelling from The Middle East to Australia and will keep you smiling.

Sabrina St George has been living in Australia for many years with her nanny Helen St George she is now a school teacher in the country and loves her life and her job yes she knows there is more to her life but a lot of years have passed since she left her home country and no one has ever come for her so she has put it all behind her and has become a strong and caring teacher and person that is until she makes the headlines for her bravery and everything will change including putting her in danger.

Khalid Ul-Haq grew up as the spare so to speak in his country of Turastan he became known as the polo playboy and was enjoying life but when tragedy strikes and he becomes the crown prince responsibilities fall to his shoulders but there is also a fair amount of guilt but he has come to terms with the fact that he must marry and he has chosen a bride but then his father informs him that they have discovered the true heir to the throne of Rhajia and that Khalid will need to bring her home and this turns Khalid's life upside down.

I loved this story from start to finish as danger and the growing spark between Sabrina and Khalid gets stronger Khalid has so much to come to terms with and the growing need to protect and get closer to the ever strong willed Sabrina and to help her come to terms with helping her to run her true country. This is a story that will keep you smiling as both Sabrina and Khalid fall under each others spells and open up and give into the love and passion that grows between them I highly recommend this one

Great Book For Beginners

Im very new in starting my vape online business all I do is vape but I didnt know the business side of it and I got this book and it taught me a lot more about the vaping business than what I thought it was and I would say to anyone starting a vape business to start off by reading this book before you start if you are as green as I am it could change the ideas you may have to make them better ideas and can help you avoid some of the pitfalls.
