Peter Walsh gave me a mind shift about my possessions: What I need/want, and what I can release and let go of.

I cannot say enough good things about Peter Walsh, and his ability to change my thinking - seriously shifting my brain to realize I do not need all this STUFF. I feel free for the first in my life of the hold that things, mementos, clutter, had on me. I am mid-stream in my down-sizing, was never a hoarder, but even people with neat and tidy homes have too much stuff. When I cleaned out my front coat closet, for instance, I had 16 pair of gloves. Various materials, bought at different times, on trips when I had forgotten to pack them or we got a sudden cold snap. Now, after donating, 14 people will have gloves. I did the same with mufflers, hats, and coats. It feels good. In my wardrobe, I had so many duplicates: for instance FIVE black turtleneck sweaters, as just one example. My core wardrobe is much leaner now, looks fantastic, easy to pack and unpack and wash. Before I had so many clothes and way too many choices and I would get overwhelmed by what to take. I am an author and I travel around the globe - (I write a thriller series about a globe trotting archaeologist so my books are set everywhere). I needed easy choices, but still need to be professionally clothed. Peter has completely taught this old dog new tricks. I love his books.

Just What I Needed

I had been feeling depressed at the "stuff" all around me, I didn't know how to start. My mother living with me is wonderful, but it's hard to part with things that were hers, or she gave to me, or "were" still useful. This had made me purge my stuff and let me wait for a better time for other things that belong to her. My children are getting asked what they want that we have stored for them AND having them decide what they want that belongs to us. A garage sale with donations to follow is in our near future. Peter is amazing, I couldn't go through this without his wisdom and direction. Bless him for his help through this book!

A timely book!

I pre-ordered this book and received it on Feb. 14th, the day it first was available. I read it over the next few days, and learned how to handle going through a loved one's possessions after their death. My mother was put on hospice care at the beginning of the month and I knew the info in Peter's book would eventually be needed. Two days after I finished the book, on Feb. 22nd, my mom passed away! I found myself quoting from the book as my sisters and daughters and I went through Mom's apartment and decided what to keep and what to let go!
An idea that we had turned out to be helpful too: after the memorial service, at my sister's house for the family get-together and dinner, she set up a "Grandma Shoppe" in the basement with the things we had kept, and had the whole family go downstairs and choose things they wanted for their own homes and as mementos, and things that had personal meaning for each one. It worked out very well, and everyone was happy.

About the Author
Nehemia Gordon holds a Masters Degree in Biblical Studies and a Bachelors Degree in Archaeology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has worked as a translator on the Dead Sea Scrolls and as a researcher deciphering ancient Hebrew manuscripts. Excellent book.........

This book captivated me within a few pages. I highly recommend this book. I felt I was drawn in immediately. Nehemia not only captivated me with his honesty and humor but it touched my heart deeply. I understand even more now how sad it has been that the name Tetragrammaton, YHVH (Yehovah), has been hidden from us for so many centuries. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. Nehemia is a Karite Jew, and I felt that he saw into my own heart about this subject, even though I was raised basically Christian. I now have a greater love for YHVH (Yehovah) and want to say and praise His name every time I see the word LORD in my Bible. This book is powerfully written but easy to read.

This Book is Amazing!

This book is well worth buying. It really shows how the Name of God, Yehovah, has been hidden from people and there truly has been a conspiracy to keep it hidden. Everytime I open my Bible and see LORD in all capitals I know that it means the Tetragrammaton, YHVH (Yehovah), but most people don't realize this. This is an excellent book to show people how important it is to call upon the Name of Yehovah...there really has been a conspiracy to keep the Name hidden because not only in my Christian Bible is the Name hidden by the translators changing His Name to LORD (which is a title) from the original Hebrew which is His personal Name, but even in my Jewish Torah books, His Name is hidden with the translation "HaShem" (which means "the Name"). I am so glad Nehemia Gordon wrote this book.

This book focuses on the Name of God (YHWH) but goes in several directions. The author's main motivation for researching the Name YHWH stemmed from the priestly blessing (see Numbers 6). As a Karaite Jew raised by an Orthodox father, Gordon always used "Adonay" (means Lord in Hebrew) instead of YHWH when reciting the blessing. When Gordon's curiosity is piqued, he makes it his mission to find out more about the Name YHWH and tell others about it.

One thing I like about Gordon's books is the feeling of adventure in the pages when the author visits historical sites in Israel. Raw emotion leaks through the book as the author visits sites that hold both Biblical significance and personal significance. The book also quotes Talmud and other extra-biblical rabbinical writings. Some of the history Gordon digs up is fascinating. All of his unusual facts are referenced clearly for one to verify. I learned so many new facts, which I won't spoil for you.

The book has many parts that discuss the background of the Name YHWH in the Bible. Arguments are very carefully weaved. Gordon uses the Hebrew Bible to support how saying YHWH is fine and even encouraged in Scripture. He even exposes the extreme rabbinical views that resulted in a rabbi being burned alive in a Torah scroll for trying to say YHWH out loud. Gordon also goes into the idea of YHWH blessing us like a Father. The beginning of the book has some great information about mixed worship in the Hebrew Bible and how corruption slowly crept into Judaism. This was fascinating. From golden calves in the Bible to conflicting rabbinical decrees, Gordon exposes the sad truth of mixed worship. The book went so far to say that blindly accepting any teaching (rabbinical or otherwise) without first consulting the Hebrew Bible is as bad as idolatry (making a teacher an idol that is seen as infallible and never questioned).

I think both Jews and Christians could benefit from this book. The book has a lot of history and Jewish insight that everyone can learn from. Anecdotes thrown in every now and then are funny (e.g.- author says his friend whines like a little girl at one point). However, some stories are not so funny. There are stories in the book how a "Christian" told Nehemia that him and all other Jews are "going to hell" because they "have no grace." Stories like these break my heart. As a Messianic, I do trust in Yeshua for my salvation. However, I do not tell others they are going to hell. I have no idea where others go when they die. That is not my job--YHWH alone will judge everyone, not me. But, there will always be mean, ignorant people in the world.

I should note that this book uses the pronunciation Yehovah. There is a note about how other pronunciations are used by others and that everyone should just do their best with what information they have. Essentially, if we mess up the pronunciation of YHWH, God understands that we just tried out best. A point I totally agreed with is that it's better to try to pronounce YHWH and maybe mess up a bit as opposed to correctly pronounce something that's not YHWH's Name.

I must confess that I do not think Yehovah is the correct pronunciation of YHWH. The logic given for the pronunciation YHWH seemed a bit rushed to me. Many say Yehovah is just YHWH with the vowels of Adonay (a,o,a) on it. Gordon says this is not true since Yehovah's first vowel sound is a sheva (:) and not an a-type vowel. He concludes that these vowel points found in ancient manuscripts must be the true vowels. However, YHWH is found in ancient manuscripts with the full vowels of Elohim (e,o,i) and sometimes the vowels of Elohim but with the first vowel sound being a sheva (:) instead of a convention e-type vowel (to get :,o,i). What is fascinating is that YHWH never has the full vowels of Adonay (a,o,a) on it. I think this is because the true pronunciation of YHWH begins with an a-type vowel for the first syllable. If not, why wouldn't scribes include a form of YHWH with all of Adonay's vowels on it? After all, they have forms of YHWH with all of Elohim's vowels on it. This is getting long. While I have my own way of pronouncing YHWH, I rarely write it out. While Gordon may have his own way of pronouncing YHWH, I think he should have taken the safe route and written out YHWH more. It's correct to write YHWH, and it is not the same as writing "the LORD." It's fine for him to say in the book why he thinks Yehovah is the correct pronunciation. This book by life long sustainability leader Sara Parkin is a must read for those who are concerned with humanities fate as we overwhelm our Earths capacity to support our material economies. We need to remember that human economics is a subset of ecology, and that the environment does not need saving - we do!

This book, written in the context of a Masters Leadership programme, sets out a sound theoretical frame, then moves to leadership training and onto pragmatic action for leaders at every level and scale. The scientific back story is clearly developed with appropriate citations.

As this process often gives rise to non-rectilinear buildings, scrutiny continues over the appropriateness of the resultant architectural forms. In turn, this gives impetus to study the new forms generated for their effects on the inhabitants’ wellbeing. Neuroscientific studies show more positive responses to curved contoured objects than to sharp contoured objects (Bar and Neta 2006; Leder, Tinio and Bar, 2011), and more activation in the amygdala when subjects view images of sharp objects versus curved objects (Bar and Neta 2007). Nanda and Pati (2009) explored the relevance of the aforementioned studies to architecture and made a case for further research. A subsequent architectonic study suggests participants viewed curved architecture as more beautiful than its rectilinear counterpart (Vartanian et al., 2013). Method. The present study tested preference levels, using six sets of bipolar adjectives, of four different architectural geometries and building forms in an innovative semi-immersive virtual environment (“CAVEtte”), designed and built by the author and a collaborator. All four buildings chosen in the study were built “Maggie’s Centres” (cancer care centers) around the United Kingdom designed by different architects, all of whom were given the same architectural brief. The designs were digitally modeled in Rhino based on available plans, sections, elevations and images, and presented to 65 students and employees (19 females and 46 males) at NewSchool of Architecture + Design (NSAD). Each participant watched four walk-through videos, one of each building, in a randomly selected order. After each video, participants filled out a subjective survey. Due to limitations in the immersive experiment, a second similar study was conducted to ensure the limitations found did not affect the results. In the follow-up study, 20 new students and employees of NSAD were tested. In addition to both the immersive experiments, two 3-Second Surveys were conducted (one of abstract shapes, and the other of black and white images of the selected Maggie’s Centres) in an effort to triangulate the data. Results. An Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was conducted to compare results between both immersive experiments and found there was no statistical difference among the curved, mixed and angled walk-through videos. However, there was a statistical difference found between Experiment 1 and 2 with regards to the rectilinear walk-through video. Due to the ANOVA results, the data presented is from Experiment 1 only. Overall, the immersive experiment findings suggest people prefer curved buildings to other geometric architectural interior environments. While these findings are consistent with the aforementioned contour-focused studies, there were some intriguing novel results when the data were parsed demographically along the lines of age, gender, education level, designers versus non-designers and years in the profession. These results demonstrate the need for future studies in a highly-immersive virtual environment to continue examining the effects of architectural contours at a physiological level. Additionally, while the 3-Second Black and White Survey slightly supported the hypothesis (the image of the mixed building was selected most, followed by the curved building), results from the 3-Second Shape Survey did not support the hypothesis, and in turn led to inconclusive results with room to examine potential limitations.
