Eye Opener HIGHLY recommend.

After being away from horses for 20 years - I took in a couple "rescue" horses that were in a group being kept here.
It's been heart breaking to see the sad condition many of these horses are in when they arrive and sadder still to see them die a few days to weeks later because it was apparently too late to save them.

This summer one was a big surprise. She looked sleek / sassy and fairly healthy. Suddenly she was dead. From what I read in this book - I have a pretty good idea why ... "... encysted small strongyles" with emphasis on the fact that fecal egg count DOES NOT tell you about these. In heavily infested animals - killing off the adult Strongyles causes the encysted to come forth and when they do, they release a toxin that CAN kill an otherwise perfectly healthy looking horse.

I don't know how long it will be offered for free (Kindle) - but it is worth it's weight in gold just for the coverage of the Strongyles. Next chance I get - I am showing this section to a couple horse friends. It makes perfect sense considering what I've seen the past couple summers with neglected horses.

I now recommend this book to people who attend my workshops (about sustainable horsekeeping). This subject has caused confusion for many years among amateurs and professionals alike so this book is a very welcome read. Just the right length to get the message across without bogging the reader down, I am always glad to find and recommend books that my clients can increase their knowledge by reading and thereby become more responsible horse owners. A must have in every horsey household!

This book is a must for every horse owner, whether they are professionals or novices. Dr Ann Nyland has written an informative, and straight to the point handbook for owners, that is easy for anybody to read (and actually absorb the information!). All facts are backed up by scientific journals and I loved the no nonsense writing style with a bit of humour.

This book is absolutely essential to anybody who cares about the health of their horses.

The chapters on small strongyles and rotation will be a real eye opener to most!

About the Author
A history professor by trade, Matt Joseph's automotive passion was inherited from his father early on. Matt has been published in more than 1,800 feature articles, and was a contributing editor for magazines such as Skinned Knuckles and Cars & Parts. He has hosted two automotive themed radio talk programs, and presently works in TV. He continues to work as an industry consultant, providing services to corporate, financial, and government clients on various aspects of automotive design, marketing, advertising, publications, and policy.

Another Great Book From An Automotive Legend!!

I picked this up right when it came out and dove into the pages and the project (an 84' AR Spider). As per usual for Mr. Joseph, the writing is interesting and detail oriented without being needlessly complex. The photography is outstanding and final result is a book that explains the processes and the reason they are used well enough so that a novice (me) can get started and an expert (my friend) can learn a trick or two. If you are starting a project (or just thinking about it) pick up a copy immediately.

Excellent Introduction and Overview

I imagine this text becoming a classic on the subject. The author wrote plainly. He introduced bumping, filing, filling, grinding, patching, sanding, sectioning, welding, and more. Newer and older repair approaches are mentioned, if only in passing. The author also discussed advantages and drawbacks of an impressive variety of tools normally used in bodywork.

After reading this book, I feel confident enough to tackle rust remediation on my aging Chevy truck. I think this book communicated the principles well enough that I'll be able to get out of any trouble I might stumble into. And I'll surely avoid a lot of trouble altogether. Without this book, I shudder to think of the damage I would have caused had I gone straight to an auto parts store and tried to git-r-done.

The author seems to possess a patience and reverence for the work, and what it takes to do bodywork competently. This is not a 12-step plan for slathering filler and spray paint on your ride.

With regard to criticism, I can think of three things that prospective readers might care to know. First, this book does not specifically discuss the latest generation of fancy electric sanders that are now probably finding their way into automotive use. For example, I happen to own a Festool RO 150 FEQ Rotex sander, which I reckon to be suitable for some automotive applications, but this book only addresses pure-rotary sanders of a traditional design. Second, this book does not discuss the application of paints and finishes much, if at all. Presumably, painting is beyond the scope of this book, and deserves treatment all its own. Thirdly, despite talking about welding as it applies to auto bodywork, persons who have never used a welder will need separate instruction.

Incidentally, bumping means using a hammer or similar tool to gently change the shape of sheet metal. I recall being confused about what bumping meant as I read the first pages of the book.

A Biblically based way to logically approach your goal

I have read multiple books about achieving success and accomplishing goals because I enjoy them, and I use them to develop my gift in leadership. Rather than tell you what you can get from book, here's what I observed.

Let's start by saying this book seems best for believers. Meaning one who accepts Christ as the savior and that God is in charge. Further, for optimum effectiveness one must believe the Bible is God's truthful word. I believe principles from the book could be employed without these foundations, but the motivation and likelihood of success would be much stronger with those foundations in place. To that point, I believe Pastor Bil would agree that embracing your goals without first accepting Christ is putting things out of order. Fortunately, it's free and only requires faith. (I'm sure Pastor Bil would be happy to provide guidance on that as well)

Building on that, I really enjoyed how this book routinely incorporated Bible stories and references. I've seen many Christian writers steer away from strong Biblical references in their books turning them into more of an emotional pep rally than God's teachings. Even though I had read these Biblical writings before, I found the breakdowns and interpretations very unique. (see chapter on Goal setting)

You'll find that there are action steps at the end of each chapter to build towards reaching your goals. I read the book straight through because I was looking at it for a learning tool, but believe following it through stepwise would really help. If I were to use this as an achievement tool I'd be certain to attack each chapter separately.

With regards to content, I particularly found the first chapters useful in identifying if my goals are truly aligned with God. In the past, I've had a hard time reconciling my ambitious to be successful with Christian theology and found much of the content useful in sorting that out. Understanding God's plan for my success versus my plan for success

Overall, I found it to be a great achievement book for Christians. Not necessarily more enlightening than all other books, but better at guiding the right kind of success.

This book not only helped change my mindset on business but a successful business with God! Bil shows biblical teaching on how God wants to and helps you in ALL aspects of your life! I would recommend this book to every person out there. This is a MUST read book!
