Please, if you're a professor, don't choose this publisher.

The "binder ready" idea really sucks. My professor said the publisher decided to not make a regular book to "keep cost down" which is bull crap, they're just passing the cost of buying a binder along to us. The paper is also awful quality and rips right out of the rings when you turn a page. Because of the poor paper quality, it also travels really poorly in a backpack; the weight of the paper stresses the holes where the rings are and they're all beginning to tear.
Overall, Wiley really sucks for only selling their book this way. I think they're doing it to cut into the rental market, because this book is going have absolutly no resale value at the end of the term.

A Hit and Miss Text Book

Having used the same publisher's book for intermediate accounting I was expecting more of the same but this book is much more condensed in terms of examples and practice problems. The worst thing about the book is how it lacks the basic exercises that require understanding the core concepts. If you have these you can check yourself as you read to make sure you are understanding things the way they should be understood. The book does have 2-4 questions per chapter that "test your knowledge" within each chapter but it should be more like 10-15 to be effective.
Some chapters are extremely difficult to understand because a simple concept is overcomplicated when it does not need to be. Chapter 2 dealing with the topic of Goodwill Impairment is a sterling example of this. Reading the book I was very confused but after the instructor went over it in class it made sense and was simple to test for and apply. Chapters 15 and 16 dealing with partnership formation and dissolution are the two best written chapters in the book. They did an outstanding job with this topic and make it crystal clear it terms of theory and application of it to data.
If your instructor releases the answer key it is an excellent study guide. The Power Point Presentations that your instructor may release are also helpful but do not depend on them. Some slides have errors that will just confuse you badly. You should read the text and use the slides as a quick review only. However, if you do not understand something in the text odds are the slides will clear things up. My experience with this course was one of having to teach yourself the material because there really is no way to lecture about everything you need to know. In that capacity the book does an overall good job.
