Assistive Technology in the Classroom: Enhancing the School Experiences of Students with Disabilities, by Amy G. Dell, Deborah A. Newton,

A current look at the most effective uses of assistive technology for students with disabilities that emphasizes the link between technology and learning.

This updated text focuses on the use of assistive technology to increase the independence and participation of students with disabilities in schools by providing them with access to the curriculum. With an emphasis on both the relationship between assistive technology and learning and on how assistive technology can be integrated into the curriculum, this text assesses the school-related tasks that students with special needs must perform in order to be successful. Additionally, this text provides descriptions of technology-based solutions, presenting these obstacles in clear, engaging prose. Instead of approaching this topic through disability categories, this book recognizes that each child is unique and that there are multiple factors to examine before choosing technology tools for each student. Throughout the book, assistive technology tools are not discussed in isolation — the context for technology use is always the classroom, the teaching-learning process, and its impact on students with disabilities.

PRACTICE MEETS THEORY!!
By Allison K.
Too many times in graduate study, we are inundated with theory that has no real practical use. Enter this text! It is a new addition to my graduate program, and it provides practical information about assistive technology, low-tech to high-tech, that can be easily incorporated into any classroom. It describes products, explains use, describes disabilities that can be helped, and even gives vendor information!

This product is a "must have" for any special educator!

Don't Order the Kindle Version!!!
By Linda
Beware: The kindle version only works on your computer. You cannot actually read it on the kindle device itself. This was disappointing as I did not want to have to lug my computer around just to have access to this book. Unfortunately, had I known, I would have bought the physical copy; but now its too late as I currently need access to this book for school. ALSO BEWARE: that there are several occasions where I have stumble across a blank page with a few words "This item omitted from WebBook Edition." I think that they are mostly images, perhaps tables, but it annoying to pay for content and not actually be able to SEE the content. The actual book itself is interesting and informative. If it wasn't for the format that I currently have for it, I would actually be enjoying the book.

AT in Classroom
By Bonnie J. H. Quist
As an AT Spec. I am constantly asked by parents when AT tools are identified how to implement the tool into the classroom work. Making it real is so important. Otherwise the tools just sit and aren't used to help the student meet their IEP goals. This book does look at the low to high tech options available. I have seen many names in the book that are people in Special Education that I greatly admire and their input shows.
